Fiji being a multicultural and multi lingual community demands its citizens to
be able to communicate in multiple languages. Language makes it possible for
people to interchange idea, opinions and feelings with others. It is the primary
tool for expression and communication which integrates the skills of speaking,
listening, reading and writing in our everyday life.
Department of Languages is committed to being a welcoming agent for Ba
Sanatan College. This commitment is reflected in our leadership, teaching,
learning, rules and regulations, resources, and staff, and by ensuring an
inclusive environment at all times.The main focus of the Department is to
increase the level of literacy of the students at Ba Sanatan College.
Three major subject areas are looked after by this Department which includes
English, Hindi and VosaVakaviti. All these subjects are offered at all levels in
the school. Apart from this, the Department also offers conversational Hindi
and VosaVakaviti from Year 9 till Year 10. Languages Department has very
enthusiastic and dedicated teachers who have immense years of teaching
experience.
2022 has been a very challenging year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Teachers of the Department have worked vigorously through virtual platforms
to reach out to the students and bring them back to school. Continuously,
through the Department activities, the students have been exposed to
debating, acting, presenting, expository writing, researching, character parade,
speech, quizzes, poster making and video making. The Department acts as an
engine in promoting literacy and obtaining good academic results for the
College.
A special acknowledgement to the school librarian, MsReshmiLata, for her
contributions to the Department and accountability in the safe keeping of the
library books and the text books.
In a nutshell, my sincere appreciation goes to all the teachers and students for
their contributions and support during the Department activities.
